Commercial Manager




Reporting to the Sales Director for Higher Education the Commercial Manager will be focussed on working with the wider HE sales team to both develop new business opportunities and maintain commercial relationships with existing university accounts.

Working in Higher Education the role will encompass building relationships with universities to encourage them to outsource the provision of broadband in halls of residence, responding to tenders and working with current customer to deliver product upgrades and contract extensions.

Prospecting & Planning

  • Work with marketing to analyse market data and identify areas of opportunity
  • Canvass new opportunities to establish connection (telephone & email)
  • Attend industry conferences to represent the business
  • Maintain a pipeline of new business 


  • Understand customer requirements and create commercial solutions that fit customers needs
  • Provide comprehensive and intelligent responses to university OJEU tenders
  • Deliver business proposition to wide range of customer stakeholders (presentation)
  • Build commercial proposal including pricing, proposition and contractual terms
  • Create long term relationships
  • Work with current customers to upgrade current services


  • Provide monthly reports on sales activity
  • Create monthly reports on productivity
  • Ensure the internal CRM is regularly maintained and up-to-date (support from Sales Administrator)


  • Provide regular feedback to product and marketing on future opportunities
  • Work closely with Service Delivery to ensure projects are delivered efficiently and to customer expectation


  • Participate in annual budget setting to represent your market

Essential Experience

  • Previous sales / commercial roles
  • Experience of selling IT, telecommunications or technology services
  • Proven sales record
  • Experience of public sector sales (tender)

Desirable Experience

  • Proven sales record
  • Previous experience of sales within the student sector
