Case
study: Nottingham Trent University
UPP
gets Nottingham Trent University students on-line with CableCom.
Nottingham
Trent University (NTU) is one of the UK's leading academic institutions,
owned and operated by the University Partnershipšs Programme (UPP).
With over 26,000 students from across the globe it prides itself
on being the university of choice for students who want to succeed
in their chosen profession. With no Internet access in halls of
residence across Nottingham City Centre, students had to travel
for up to 20 minutes to the university campus to go on-line. This
was solved by providing Internet and IPTV services across all
the halls of residence.
Why
they chose CableCom Access Technologies
| |
UPP
awarded the contract to CableCom because our service allowed
for a complete package of telephony and high-speed internet
links in one integrated solution. |
| |
NTU
wanted a solution that was cost-effective without needing
initial capital. Thanks to our unique funding model, NTU and
UPP faced no capital outlay. |
Our
solution
We
provided networking into 10 halls of residence, making a total
of 2,300 rooms, retro-fitting the cabling. The networks were linked
back to a main hub site to create a Wide Area Network across Nottingham
City Centre. Now 2,300 students can benefit from high-speed internet
connection as well as IPTV whenever they need it. More students
now want to live in NTU accommodation and enjoy the state-of-the-art
facilities for communications and entertainment.
"The
fact that there was easy internet access was a real deciding factor
when I chose to live in Nottingham halls of residence"
Amy Mortimer
Student
