Case
study: University of Luton
CableCom
and University of Luton - a lesson in network technology.
The
University of Luton aims to provide accessible, flexible and career-related
education within a lively environment. Over 1,000 students at
UOL were living in off-campus halls of residence with no internet
access. The university wanted to remedy this, making the halls
of residence more desirable to prospective students.
Why
they chose CableCom Access Technologies
| |
UOL
wanted to increase the number of students staying in halls
-our all-in-one network made accommodation more attractive
to tenants. |
| |
Students
listed internet access as their number one priority in choosing
accommodation - we could provide high speed internet access
directly to individual bedrooms. |
| |
The
project was part of an overall improvement programme for Luton
- our unique funding model was an attractive proposition for
UOL. |
Our
solution
We
provided networking into 7 halls of residence, making a total
of 1,050 rooms, with the very latest communication and entertainment
systems integral to every bedroom. Automated registration means
end-users can sign up without calling on help from UOL and can
be on-line in less than 7 minutes. Our 10-year maintenance and
helpdesk service means they can rely on a fail-safe network at
all times. UOL accommodation is more desirable to students and
we have been tasked with managing the network for a 10-year period.
"CableCom
Access Technologies implemented a network across all our halls
of residence, without us having to make a large capital outlay"
