We commissioned some research to try and answer this question, looking at the wants, needs and expectations of millennial movers currently living in the PRS sector.
By surveying 500 young professionals, we saw that:
The research also uncovered valuable information about the renting habits of young professionals. 43.8% said their main reason for renting was lack of funds, or saving for, a house deposit, while 28.4% liked the flexibility of renting. This isn’t surprising, due to the transience trend we are seeing in millennial movers. 55.6% had moved 1-2 times in the last 5 years, 30.2% 3-4 times, and 6.6% even moving 5-6 times in a 5 year period.
However, a lot can frustrate young professionals about renting. Going without the internet was ranked highest (96%), followed by moving belongings (84%), setting up new bills (81.6%) and having post redirected (73.8%). It is obvious that internet is now an essential, especially as 77.2% own three or more Internet ready devices.
By sharing the results of our survey, we aim to provide an unrivalled understanding of this key demographic and aid the construction of future homes that are attractive, prosperous and customer-focussed.
